Get to Know Your Photographer - Thanks to the Santa Maria Sun

I recently interviewed with the Santa Maria Sun to be featured in their Wedding Issue and the article came out last week. I am normally a pretty private person so I thought this article was a great way my clients could get to know me a little better. Here are some facts about me from the article you may not have known (and some added personal detail)

I took a photography class in high school and loved the darkroom

This was by far my favorite class in high school. It was my creative outlet and I loved exploring that side of myself. Since I was pretty shy I loved the private, quiet moments in the darkroom just anticipating how a photo looks.

I was nervous to start photography as a business because I thought i would lose my love of it

Photography has always been my stress reliever and my way to relax when things feel hectic. I really didn’t want to lose that, and I was worried that doing photography professionally would cause me to lose that love.

It hasn’t happened, and I don’t think it will.

If anything, I’ve been able to be even more creative because every client and every session is different. I get to come up with new ideas each time while continuing to refine and build on what I’ve learned.

I have a background in market research and data analytics

Before becoming a full-time Santa Maria photographer, I worked for 13 years in marketing, data analytics, and market research. I analyzed business performance, advertising campaigns, websites, and customer data.

That experience directly influences how I approach brand photography on the Central Coast.

I understand how difficult it can be to grow and promote a small business, especially locally and to a specific target audience. When I photograph brands, I don’t just focus on beautiful images. I focus on creating strategic, intentional photos that communicate who you are and what your business stands for.

For entrepreneurs and small businesses in Santa Maria and the surrounding Central Coast communities, strong branding imagery can truly make a difference.

I am quiet by nature and that is the same when taking photos

I love getting to know my clients, but I’m not loud or boisterous during a session. I actually feel that helps create space for natural moments to happen; couples leaning on each other, families being themselves, and genuine interactions unfolding without pressure.

Being featured in the Santa Maria Sun Wedding Issue was such an honor, especially because I love documenting stories, families, and small businesses along the Central Coast. I’m so grateful I get to do this work and to be trusted with moments that matter so much.
