Can a Newborn Session Be Less Than an Hour?
The short answer is yes!
The longer answer is yes, however, I recommend the full session, which is about an hour, especially for newborns. It gives us more time and flexibility in case anything comes up during the session.
With a newborn, there is always the possibility of an unexpected diaper change, a fussy baby who needs some extra soothing, feeding, or a sibling who needs a little extra attention. The last thing I want is for you to feel rushed, stressed, or like there is too much chaos happening at once.
When we allow more time, everyone can relax. If something comes up, we can simply adjust and photograph something else while we wait.
For example, I recently photographed a newborn session where Mom needed to take the baby for a diaper change. While they were gone, I photographed big brother sitting at a table his great-grandfather had made. I also captured big brother jumping into Dad's arms in the living room. Once Mom and baby returned, we were able to continue with the session and still capture all of the moments we had hoped for.
That extra time allowed us to go with the flow instead of feeling like we had to rush through everything.
What About a 30-Minute Session?
A 30-minute newborn session is an option if you are looking for something shorter and more focused. These sessions will be baby only, so they are best suited for parents who primarily want photos of their newborn rather than a full family session.
If you want to include parents, siblings, and more of those everyday family moments, I recommend the full session. The extra time gives us room to slow down, let everyone settle in, and capture the little moments that make your newborn session feel like your family.
Newborn sessions don't always go exactly as planned, and that's okay. In fact, some of the sweetest moments can happen in between the plans. My goal is to give you the time and space to enjoy this season while I document it for you.
