If you’re expecting a baby, you may be wondering whether a Fresh 48 session or an in home newborn session is right for you. Both are beautiful ways to document those first days, but they capture two slightly different parts of your story.

Fresh 48 Session

If you want to remember what those very first days actually felt and looked like, I recommend a Fresh 48 session.

These sessions take place within the first 48 hours after your baby arrives, typically in the hospital or birth center. Your baby is brand new, tiny, sleepy and still adjusting to the world.

There are so many little details from those first days that can become a blur over time.

A Fresh 48 session focuses on those early moments. Your baby being held for the first time, tiny fingers and toes, feeding, cuddling, siblings meeting their new baby, and the quiet moments in between.

In Home Newborn Session

If you’re more interested in documenting your family at home and the space where you’ll spend so much of your time together, an in home newborn session may be the better fit.

These sessions take place once you’re home and beginning to settle into life with your new baby. Your home becomes part of the story. The nursery, the couch where you spend countless hours cuddling, siblings loving on their new baby, and all those everyday moments that make this season yours.

There’s no need for a perfectly clean or perfectly decorated home. This is about documenting your family as you are in those early days.

Both Tell the Story of Those First Days

Whichever session you choose, the goal is the same: to preserve this fleeting season of your life.

Both Fresh 48 and in home newborn sessions are centered around natural, unposed moments. I’ll gently guide you when needed, but I want your images to feel like you and your family rather than a series of perfectly posed photos.

Those newborn days can feel long while you’re in them, but they pass so quickly. Eventually, the late nights, tiny stretches, sleepy cuddles and way your baby fit perfectly in your arms will become a fond memory.

Photographs give you a way to return to those moments.

So whether you choose to document your baby in those first 48 hours or wait until you’re home and settling into your new rhythm, you’re preserving a part of your story that you’ll never get back.
