Places to visit during a family reunion in Santa Barbara County


If you're planning an extended family vacation or reunion in Santa Barbara County, you’re in for a treat. This region is full of charm, natural beauty, and activities that suit all ages. The beautiful year-round weather makes it perfect to visit anytime of year and makes finding locations that can accommodate big groups. Whether your group loves wine tasting, beach days, hiking, or simply relaxing together, there is something for everyone. Here are some of my favorite family-friendly places that will be perfect for an extended family vacation or reunion:


Solvang 

A Danish-inspired town with windmills, horse-drawn carts, bakeries, and boutique shops. Solvang is a fun, walkable destination for the whole family. It makes you feel like you left the country and went back in time even though it is just 45 minutes from Santa Barbara. Grab pastries, visit the local stores, or sip wine while the kids explore nearby parks.


Gathering areas for the entire group:

  • Hans Christian Andersen Park: tucked behind town, with big oak trees, trails, a playground, and shaded space perfect for group picnics or casual exploring.
  • Nojoqui Falls Park offers a peaceful nature walk to a seasonal waterfall. It’s shaded, family-friendly, and great for all ages.


Santa Ynez Wine Country

Rolling hills, golden light, and scenic vineyards make this region both peaceful and photogenic. Many wineries are family-friendly and offer food, outdoor space, and relaxed experiences for all ages. The town of Los Olivos is a favorite for its cute small-town feel, cozy tasting rooms, small shops, and slower pace, perfect for an easy day with the whole family.

  • Roblar Vineyard and Farm – a blend of rustic charm and spacious grounds, great for relaxing or letting kids roam.
  • Vega Vineyard & Farm – casual and welcoming with a lawn, farm animals, and delicious food and wine.
  • Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos – a beautiful spot to gather for a meal or drinks in a historic setting.



Buellton

Nestled between Solvang and Lompoc, Buellton is a great base for families staying in different areas to meet up. It offers quieter streets and hidden gems that are perfect for big families.

  • River View Park and the Santa Ynez Botanical Gardens: these two locations are right next to each other and have walking paths, open fields, and a playground for younger family members.



Goleta

Right outside of Santa Barbara, offers fewer crowds and more space to celebrate.
